Creating the Blueprint for Your Dreams (more by Megz!)

After yesterday’s post, this is going to be an easy breezy one.. judge for yourself.. So far, we have covered three stages in Follow Your Dreams process:

- Start Where You Are

- Know Yourself

- Decide What Do You Want to Do

Now comes that part the presents the biggest hurdle in following own dreams for most people – not knowing where to start… and this is the part closest to my heart. So let’s see how we can conquer that psychological barrier of starting with this mammoth task of transforming your dreams into reality.

  1. Convert your Vision into Bite Sized Goals: The first step to stop getting scared by the enormity of your Vision is to break it down into small doable goals. Let’s call these bite size goals.. so, instead of trying to eat the entire pizza in one go (which can be scary and dangerous), you try to finish it slice by slice.. Like the analogy, huh.. I hope I didn’t  make you hungry..

I recommend using either of the following two goal guides (both are free resources) to help you convert your vision into goals:

  1. Create a Mind Map: An alternate method is to create a mind map for each of your vision area:
    1. Work and Career
    2. Finances
    3. Recreation and Free Time
    4. Health and Fitness
    5. Relationships
    6. Personal Goals
    7. Contribution to the larger community

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying and organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and writing.

See the diagram and visit this link to understand how to create a mind map.

Visualization:  Visualization of your goals and desires accomplishes four very important things.

    1. It activates your creative subconscious which will start generating creative ideas to achieve your goal.
    2. It programs your brain to more readily perceive and recognize the resources you will need to achieve your dreams.
    3. It activates the law of attraction, thereby drawing into your life the people, resources, and circumstances you will need to achieve your goals.
    4. It builds your internal motivation to take the necessary actions to achieve your dreams

Seek out Clues:  No matter what you want to accomplish, someone has already done it and left clues in the form of books, manuals, audio and video programs, university classes, online courses, seminars, and workshops.

    1. Seek out a teacher, coach, mentor; a manual, book, or audio program; or an internet resource to help you achieve one of your major goals.
    2. Seek out someone who has already done what you want to do, and ask the person if you can interview him or her for a half hour on how you should best proceed.
    3. Ask someone if you can shadow them for a day and watch them work. Of offer to be a volunteer, assistant, or intern for someone you think you can learn from.

“Having a role model in life is a great thing to have; one who provides us with direction and inspiration. However, we will forever be restricted by that person’s limitations if we live within their boundaries. Be influenced, but set your own standards and develop your own principals, if you are ever to live beyond someone else’s dreams.”
—Jason Shahan

You can use either or a combination of the above mentioned techniques to create your own customized Blueprint. Tomorrow we will cover the last bit of this series i.e. implementing this blueprint to actualize your dream.

  1. admin:

I didn’t get to spend much time on formatting last week. Sorry for all the odd numbering! Also if people click on the “Mind Map” picture, you can see a much larger version of it. Great job, Megz!

  2. I love this. This is exactly what I need to figure out how to merge my multiple personalities. Thanks so much.
