Friday and Monday, we covered the how and why of making wishes on each New Moon (once a month). There are also 3-5 weeks each year, when you can make wishes EVERY DAY, if you so choose. According to Jan Spiller, you can make up to 40 wishes during this time period. (She bases the number of wishes on the research she conducted with her clients and herself.) She calls this 3-5 week window the “granddaddy power period.”
At first, I balked at the use of a paternal grandparent. I was going to change it to “grandmother” but realized this period involves the sun, and not the moon. In most cultures (but not all), the sun is considered a masculine energy and the moon a feminine energy. So, I’ll leave the name as is.
Ok, what I’m sure you are all wondering…how do I find this magical time? First, you’ve got to look at your astrological chart, and you’ll have to know your time of birth. If you don’t know your time of birth, just be sure to make wishes on each and every New Moon. One of those will coincide with your Power Period.
The Power Period is when the sun is transiting the eleventh house of your astrological chart. To put it another way, your Power Period is when the current astrological sign of the sun is the same as the sign of your eleventh house.
Why the eleventh house? Each house of an astrological chart “rules” a specific area of your life. The second house is all about self-worth. The seventh is relationships. Tenth is career. The eleventh house rules hopes, wishes, goals and objectives (also friends, acquaintances, groups, organizations).
Some of you may have this going on RIGHT NOW. Some may have to wait almost a year. I’ve included Virginia Woolf’s chart here (click on it twice to get a very large version). Look at the number “11″ in the “pie slices” (houses). She has the sign of Pisces and Aries in her eleventh house. Her Power Period was when the sun was in Pisces and Aries.
However, you’ll also notice that a teeny bit of Pisces is in her tenth house, and over half of Aries is in the twelfth. So, her Power Period would not start as soon as the sun enters Pisces (February 20) but a few days in. Also, it would be over mid way through Aries. To know your exact period, you’ll need to look at your “transits”.
There are several ways to calculate your transits. You can find transits for free on Astro.com but it’s not terribly intuitive. First, create your free chart there. Then, click on “Free Horoscopes” in the upper, left-hand sidebar. Choose “Horoscope Drawings and Calculations.” Then, “Extended Chart Selection.” Under “Method”, choose “natal chart and transits.”
DON’T CLICK “SHOW THE CHART” YET! Before you do that, you’ll want to type in the date under “Options.” You’ll be guessing and playing around with the date until you get a chart where the sun is at the beginning of your eleventh house.
I’ve included my chart on the right (again, click to make it larger). Since my eleventh house starts over halfway into Virgo, I guessed that my transit would begin around September 12. I put that in as the date, under “options,” and clicked, “click here to show the chart.” See the green planets around the outside of the chart? Those are the transiting planets. And, indeed, the sun (green circle inside a circle), will be beginning the transit of my eleventh house at that time.
How long the sun will be in your eleventh house really depends on how big your house is (they can vary in size). Some will have a three week transit. Others will have a 5 week transit. Again, play around with the Astro.com chart feature to find your “end date.” Your “end date” will be when the sun is at the very end of your eleventh house.
When the sun is transiting the eleventh house of your astrological chart (the current astrological sign of the sun is the same as the sign of your eleventh house), you can make up to 40 wishes.
You can make wishes any day during this period – a few each day, all in one day, or sporadically, as they come to you.
Do not make these wishes UNTIL THE SUN IS IN YOUR ELEVENTH HOUSE.
If you don’t know your exact time of birth, simply make wishes with each New Moon. One month will coincide with the sun’s transit of your eleventh house.
Jan Spiller strongly recommends that the following be one of your 40 wishes, “I want to easily cut through any fears or negativity that may arise in the month following my Power Period, and emerge with flying colors.” Spiller explains that both she and her clients often experienced anxiety as a result of the sudden changes brought about by their Power Period wishes. This wish helped to alleviate that anxiety.
